- This Sunday morning, tourists and locals were unable to access Balandra beach because it was closed due to a fire on a yacht.
The Balandra Flora and Fauna Protection Area announced that due to an environmental contingency, Balandra beach will remain closed until further notice.
At the moment of the accident 12 people were rescued by a civilian boat that was near. The passengers of the boat were later evaluated by personnel from the La Paz Naval Hospital who found them to be in good health.
This Sunday the beach was not opened because there was still ash and debris in the water, but so far there has been no word on a possible fuel spill.
Balandra beach will remain closed until the environmental authorities determine that bathers can enjoy without a risk.
