Navy evacuated injured tourist on a sailboat

Navy evacuates Australian woman was sailing a sailboat northeast of Los Cabos when she injured her eye.

The Secretary of the Navy performed a medical evacuation of an Australian woman who was aboard a sailboat northeast of Cabo San Lucas. She was transported to the Cabo Naval Sector dock and later to a hospital.

On May 16, an emergency call was placed to the U.S. Coast Guard District 11 Rescue Coordination Center (RCC); personnel from the Naval Station Search, Rescue and Ocean Surveillance (ENSAR) set sail in a vessel to the location where support was required.

The sailboat was approximately 70 nautical miles northeast of Cabo San Lucas and it was reported that the Australian woman had an eye injury; upon arrival naval personnel performed the necessary maneuvers to evacuate the injured woman. It was noted that she was treated for probable retinal detachment.

In case of emergencies at sea, in order to safeguard human life, Sector Naval Los Cabos provided citizens with the following number: 624 105 1110. Likewise, the Secretary of the Navy shared the contact: 800 627 4621 and 800 MARINA1.
