More than 6,000 dogs and cats were sterilized during 2021: SSA

For the benefit of their pets, more than 6,000 owners took their canines or felines to be sterilized in the campaigns of the Secretary of Health in Baja California Sur.

During the year 2021, more than 6,000 free sterilizations of domestic animals were performed by the Secretary of Health of Baja California Sur, in order to control canine and feline reproduction; in these actions, zootechnical veterinarians contributed to animal welfare.

In the sterilization campaigns, techniques were strengthened in the interventions on domestic animals, so that the incisions would be as minimally invasive as possible, commented the head of the Department of Disease Prevention and Control, Samuel Ritchie Espinoza.

In addition, with these efforts, the state institution promotes the culture of responsible pet ownership, which highlights the importance of owners making decisions in favor of their pet’s health care.

Finally, the Head of the Department reminded the public that if they decide to take care of a pet, they should be aware that the commitment is to have the pet for at least 10 years, with a quality of life, otherwise a community health problem may arise.
